Madison

A truly modern space
in Kansas City.

The Madison Lofts project was a meticulous historic renovation that revived the building’s original 1922 charm. Originally known as Kansas City Power and Light’s Substation A, this structure was constructed in 1922 to support the growing electrical needs of the Kansas City area. The building was vacated in the 1980s when the substation ceased operations and its equipment was removed, leaving the property to sit idle and deteriorate. In 2017, developers began a transformative restoration, turning the long-blighted industrial space into a vibrant residential community. Today, the Madison Lofts’ exterior faithfully replicates its 1922 appearance, with every detail—from doors to windows—carefully preserved to reflect its original architectural character, bringing new life and residents to Kansas City’s downtown area.
